Life Story for Franz Leber

Franz Leber
Franz Leber passed away peacefully on November 5, at age 89 after complications of Parkinson's Disease. He spent his last days with his beloved squirrels ('mukis') and birds outside his window, surrounded by family and loved ones who provided palliative care during his final days. His loss is deeply felt by his wife of 63 years, Linda Leber, his children and children-in-law: Cornelia & Gerhard, Agnes & Doug, Martin & Irene, and his eight grandchildren.

Franz was an expert draftsman and leader in the construction industry. Giving generously of his time and talent he helped design and build a number of churches in Canada and Mexico. He also built four houses in which his family lived for decades. He was a construction superintendent whose projects included schools, hospitals and the renovation of prominent Toronto buildings [ROM/AGO], as well as the Wehmeyer cottage on Jack's Lake, where four generations have made summer memories. He achieved all of this despite an education and childhood fractured by World War II. Even later in life, he never shied away from a technical challenge. He learned about wifi and email in his 70s, and he was always enthusiastically spearheading projects, whether building things like go-carts or bottle-rockets with his grandchildren, or rehabilitating his son-in-law's riding lawn mower after a mouse infestation. His family remembers him as their rock and tireless helper, a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He was a man of faith. Whether serving on the Trustee board, singing bass in the choir, teaching adult Sunday school or giving advice, he was always faithful and someone you could trust. His love, patience and integrity will always be remembered both by his physical family and by his church family at the German Church of God.

Our loss is heaven’s gain. No doubt he is experiencing something even better than his favourite treats on earth: ice cream and chocolate. Through our grief we are comforted that he is at rest in Jesus' arms. We feel blessed to carry his incredible legacy with us for the rest of our lives on earth. Franz's life remains a gift we will always be deeply grateful for.
