Obituary for Claudia Hortense Kendall
CLAUDIA HORTENSE KENDALL (nee McCurdy) December 5th, 1928 - March 8th, 2019
In a spirit of Thanksgiving, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Claudia Hortense Kendall who died peacefully at home in Toronto, on Friday March 8th, 2019. Claudia was the wife of the late Herman Alfred Kendall, cherished mother of Carl (Deceased), Marilyn, Loreen, Jasmine (Cedric), Constance, Joy (Martin) and Mark (Agnes.) She is fondly remembered by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and in laws. She was predeceased by her parents Abigail McCurdy and Joseph Thorne of Corentyne, Guyana, and by her sister Loreen Walters on September 1st, 2018. Born and raised in Corentyne, Guyana, Claudia was a lifelong teacher who began her career in 1943 as a Pupil Teacher and retired as Headmistress in 1984. Claudia will be remembered for her love of family, being a committed Christian and faithful friend. Her hobbies were reading, cake decorating and travelling. A Celebration of Life service will be held at her church parish of St. Mary and St. Martha Anglican, 1149 Weston Road (at Eglinton Ave) on Saturday March 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation at church from 9am until service time. Interment will follow at St. Philip’s Churchyard, 31 St. Philip’s Road (At Dixon). The family gives their deepest thanks to her caregiver Thora Belgrove, her medical team at Humber River Regional Hospital and Crosstown Health Services. Also her care team from VHA home healthcare who helped mother to fulfill her wish of being cared for at home. We thank her friends and the many other persons who attended to her physical and spiritual needs.
