Obituary for Rita Rose Busby

Rita Rose Busby (nee Travis)
January 26, 1925 – April 12, 2019
With heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom, “Nanna” and “Nanna Rita”. She passed peacefully at home in the arms of Our Lord, under her family’s care as she had hoped for.
Predeceased by her husband John Busby, her brother Bert Travis, his wife Donna Travis and her niece, Michelle Travis as well as her sister, Theresa (Terry) Schaefer. Unconditionally loving Mom to Debbie Fisher, John Busby and Kim Dunlop and her son-in-law Rodger Dunlop . Exceptional and giving “Nanna” to Ryann and Tina Cilic, Shannon Dunlop, Katie Dunlop, Cameron and Courtney Dunlop, and Michael and Lily Barker. If we thought she was a fantastic Grandmother that was just the warm-up. She embraced and loved her great-grandchildren as a super caring “Nanna Rita” to Aidan, Andrew, Alex, Rylynn, John Paul, Joseph (Joey), Thomas (Tommy) and Nate and Liam. She will not be here physically for the birth of her second great granddaughter in May, however we will be certain her legacy is passed on. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Gary and Fran Prette, Sharon Spinks, Brenda Restall, Wayne and Mary Prette and Tracey Travis Gillis.
Rita Rose Travis was born on January 26th, 1925 in San Clara, Manitoba. She eventually moved north to The Pas, Manitoba with her father Steven Travis, her sister Theresa and her brother Bert after her mother, Victoria Travis (nee Marchand) passed in the early 1930’s. From The Pas, she made her way east to Toronto where she met her Scottish sweetheart, John Joseph Busby. They married in 1953 and resided in Toronto.
Rita worked as a Loblaw’s cashier until her 70th birthday and loved her job but let it not go unsaid that she should have opened a bakery because according to her son-in-law, Rodger, she bakes an apple pie and carrot cake that makes you wonder where you are or who you are.
She loved the Lord and attended Mass daily at St. Mary’s Church in Brampton and was also a devoted Blue Jays fan. She couldn’t wait for the 2019 season to begin. It is whispered that she was caught reading the Blue Jay schedule in Church instead of her hymnal. Between bowling, cards and bingo she maintained a very active life.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 16th at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday April 17th at 1pm at St. Mary’s Church, 66A Main Street South, Brampton. She will be interred at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Glenelg Ontario.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to ShareLife. Also, Rita's family has suggested that a Memorial Donation of a perennaial plant would be appreciated, to celebrate the living Legacy of Rita Busby.
