Obituary

Gladys would speak fondly of her childhood. She enjoyed running around in her neighbourhood playing games like tag, climbing up fruit trees to enjoy their sweet nectar, helping her mother sell goods in the market and spending hours of her time chatting with loved ones.

Gladys had an amazing and adventurous adulthood. She had her first child (Jimmy Gavilanes) at the age of 20. In order to have a better opportunity for herself and her family, she immigrated to NYC at the age of 28 where she lived for 3 years. she then proceeded to immigrate to Toronto to be alongside her sister (Juana Sanchez) by 1988. There She met her husband (Manuel Plaza) and birthed three kids (Elvis, Eric and Dianna). She had the opportunity to also be a great grandmother to 4 beautiful grandchildren (Jose, Justin, Aaron and Alessandro). Gladys proceeded to take on the full role of a mother, friend, grandmother, sister and aunt and passed along many life lessons, memorable moments, her contagious smile and her love, to all her children.

Gladys was best known by her friends and family as someone who can get you to smile and laugh. Her facial expression and inappropriate jokes would leave you gasping for air. Not only was she funny but she had a good heart. Countless individuals would express how they would always felt welcomed around her.

Gladys was a tough individual, mentally and physically. She endured some tough pains throughout her life but her most recent battle was too much for her. At the age of 58, Gladys was diagnosed with utrine cancer. At first, she fought cancer to oblivion but unfortunately cancer came back and won.

On Saturday April 20, 2019 - 0950hrs Gladys took her last breath. She will be missed by many but she will stay in our hearts forever.

Te amamos mami, nunca te olvidaremos. Cuida nosotros y descansa en paz.

I would like to express my sincerest condolences to Ms. Plaza Family. May you take comfort knowing even though she is resting, John 5:28-29 says that there will be a resurrection, where our Heavenly Father promises to return to life all our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death (Acts 24:15) May this future promise bring you peace now and an amazing hope during this difficult time.
