Wasn't aware of Shirley's passing ... Big Town Boy was one of the first 45s I purchase for myself as a young guy in St. Catharines. Loved the urban feel and key changes .... great tune! Sounds like a blessed life and we certainly share(d) a love for baseball. RIP Shirley!!

Dear MR Vedder Sorry to be so late with condolences! I was and still am in awe if her singing abilities since I heard BIG TOWN BOY! This week I found three more songs by her and I am delighted but if I am not mistaken didn't she sing background on many more songs ! Do you have a discography of them? I would love to co-produce with you a compilation cd of all her work! It would be a filttimg tribute! She will never be forgotten by me but many more should know her amazing contributions! Be well!

I was saddened to just recently hear about the passing of Shirley. I did not hear it in media anywhere Big Town Boy is simply my all time favourite song, and I continually play it every chance I get. I know she got out of the music business a long time ago, but there is not much on the internet about her or this song. Is there photos on-line somewhere of her at the time the song was out, or any videos of her performing it live, or interviews she may have done at that time. It would be great if they can be posted on the internet

Mr. Vedder I was so shocked to hear the news about Mrs. Vedder. She was such a kind and fun person to be around. She had a great and infectious laugh. I know every time I saw both of you at Weston, you always had smiles on your faces and really enjoyed being there together. Jim, I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Shirley. I met the both of you about two years ago at the club and we had many coversations about the club. However are favourite conversations were about baseball. Shirley loved the game and not just the home team. She knew all the teams and players. Jim it is not often you hear a woman say " he has to start the runner". You must have had a wonderful life together. I wish you the strength and courage to get through this terrible time.

It is with sadness and shock that I am hearing of Shirlee's passing. She was my boss for 19 years and a great mentor and friend. I owe a lot to Shirley. It was because of Shirley’s influence that the Mayfair Predators and Warriors dragonboat teams were sponsored for over 10 years and I was able to participate in the sport for so long. As a result of Shirley’s continued support, lifelong friendships and even marriages resulted on the teams over the years.
